Baltimore County School Board to Elect Chair, Vice Chair on Tuesday

The Baltimore County school board will vote during its regularly scheduled board meeting on Tuesday for its board chair and vice chair positions.

The positions are for one-year terms and are voted on by board members each December.

School board member, Kathleen Causey, who represents the third council district, currently holds the position of chair.  Julie Henn, who represent the fifth council district, serves as the board’s current vice chair.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 pm at Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) Greenwood headquarters at 6901 N. Charles Street, Building E, in Towson. The meeting will also be live streamed.  A link to the meeting can be accessed here.

The application process for the 2020-2021 student member of the board is also underway.  This year, all BCPS middle school and high school students will have the opportunity to cast their votes for their board representative.

Rising seniors, interested in filling the one-year term position, can apply now. The deadline to apply is January 10, 2020.

The 12-member partially elected school board was first seated last December.

At large board member, Roger Hayden, passed away in October, leaving the school board with 11 current voting members.

Early next year, the Baltimore County School Board Nominating Commission (BCSBNC) will take applications for those interested in filling the vacancy .  With the exception of the student member, board members serve four-year terms.

The BCSBNC will nominate candidates and then forward names to Gov. Larry Hogan who will make the final selection.
