The Gunpowder Gazette is devoted to nonpartisan, balanced reporting – digging deeply into raw data as a means to get to the truth behind issues that larger publications miss. We see our role as one where we are “beholden to the people,” and that it is the media’s job to be a check on government, holding it accountable for the people.
You might be wondering about our name. The Gunpowder Gazette is named after Maryland’s Gunpowder Falls State Park, 18,000 acres of protected land and waterways and 120 miles of walking trails that span both Harford and Baltimore Counties. The publication, however, is more than a regional one and focuses on Maryland and some Southern Pennsylvania/Maryland border news as well as exclusive national stories which may or may not have local implications.
We aim to give you the who/what/when/why and how; and to inform you – our readers – not abuse you with political polarization. We view sharing news as a sacred responsibility and we offer it with a promise to you that we will always strive to get it right, and that we will do so with a singular agenda which to keep you informed.
Reporter and publisher, Ann Costantino, has been a Baltimore County resident for over twenty years. A graduate of Towson University, Ann earned her bachelors in mass communications after first studying communications and journalism in Arizona and Texas. Ann worked as assistant to the executive director of the (former) Advertising Association of Baltimore (AAB), where she co-managed the organization’s American Advertising “ADDY” Awards shows in Baltimore and New York, which celebrated creativity in advertising. In Texas, Ann interned with the Austin Chronicle, learning the old school ways of cropping and editing, developing and sizing photographs. A long way from where she started, Ann is originally from Oahu, Hawaii – a place where she learned the value of the aloha spirit. Ann is politically independent and fiercely committed to integrity in journalism.
